About us and why we started the PAN AM World DocuProject
The ground for PAN AM's historical and legendary development and operations was laid by the dedication and commitment of the PAN AM people with their fine skills and experience.
One example is the movie “Last flight out” you might know. This was released 1990 just months before PAN AM World Airways went out of operations. On the last flights you could watch the movie trailer on board of a flight like from Frankfurt heading New York’s PAN AM WorldPort (JFK airport).
It is about PAN AM operating the last flight out of Saigon which was made possible only by dedicated PAN AM people as cockpit and cabin crews as well as mates on the ground.
In fact this is a long history of PAN AM flights which could be operated only due to this dedicated PAN AM staff. And this included flights after earthquakes and other emergency situations to fly in goods for the suffering people in different countries which began even in the early years in the 1930s.
But not just for such dramatic occasions but also for regular services the PAN AM people showed their dedication and commitment for their job and for those who chose PAN AM for their journey.
PAN AM’s Last Flight Out
During that flight to New York you could not imagine that this movie would be a prospective for PAN AM’s last flight at all operated with a Boeing 727-200 from Barbados to Miami just some months later in 1991.
Why The PAN AM World DocuProject started in Berlin
We started with our PAN AM World DocuProject in Berlin in 2016 where PAN AM World Airways and PAN AM Express used to run a base of more than 200 pilots and about 350 flight attendants as well as a lot of highly skilled ground personal to operate the “Internal German Service” (PAN AM IGS Base) finally with Airbus A-300, A-310, Boeing 727-200 and ATR 42 TurboProps.
PAN AM’s IGS operated between 1946 (done by American Overseas which was taken over by PAN AM in 1950) until 1991 with about 70 million passengers between West-Berlin and West-Germany.
The reason we started in Berlin: As I was based with PAN AM in Berlin until 1990, live and still are associated with PANAMers here I kick-started the project in Berlin.
We encourage and invite other PANAMers all around the world to cooperate with us and enlargen this project to other PAN AM bases, hubs and destinations with their experience and historical knowledge as well.
