Warmly Welcome To Our Worldwide Project
“PAN AM: The World’s most experienced Airline”.
It indeed was in many ways:
PAN AM’s Worldwide Air System and firstly inaugurated destinations
PAN AM’s Technical Advancements for Aviation
The Staff: The PAN AM People.
Historically the first two points are well researched and documented. But the third one is at least similarly important, as the first two would not have been possible without PAN AM’s people.
PAN AM operated several bases within the U.S. like at PAN AM's WorldPort (New York JFK airport) and overseas with local crews all over the world which was very unique at the time when it started like in Berlin (in 1950), Honululu (in 1955), Nairobi, Instanbul, Bombay (Mumbay), Warsaw, Moscow, Belgrade etc.
The history in this regard about the PAN AM people where they worked and with their experiences is still not well researched and hardly documented.
“I’m sure that everyone involved in aviation has a host of stories that they could tell about their experiences, but I will always take particular pride in my 19 years at PAN AM and the stories that members of the PAN AM family relate when they get together. To me, PAN AM was a truly special place and time populated by special people doing amazing things.”
Bill Lange, General Manager of PAN AM System Control, after 19 years with PAN AM in New York
The basis for the PAN AM People DocuProject Worldwide
This PAN AM People DocuProject has been inaugurated to preserve the dedication and experiences of those who used to work for PAN AM World Airways in tribute for “The World’s most experienced Airline’s People: The PAN AM People”.
This enabled PAN AM to become “The World’s most experienced Airline”.
The "project's launch" was inspired from the Steven Spielberg project called Shoah Foundation in the 1990s when he and his film crews on-camera interviewed Jews, Jehovah’s witnesses and others to preserve their personal experiences that way all over the world.
Even years after Pan Am World Airways and PAN AM Express stopped its services PANAMers all over the world still come together and reunite regularly. Many PANAMers worked and still are working for other airlines.
Even that PAN AM faced severe financial challenges during the last years of operation PAN AM’s people kept a strong corporate identity and loyalty up to nowadays. This is what you sense and see even now when you attend reunion meetings all over the world.
And this is the basis for the PAN AM World DocuProject as well.
